About Girvan

Girvan is a burgh in Carrick, South Ayrshire, Scotland, with a population of about 8000 people. It was originally a fishing port, but today, it's also known as a seaside resort with beaches and cliffs. The traditional holiday resort of Girvan dates back to 1668 when it became a municiapl burgh incorporated by Charter. Its harbour is a centre of attraction for visitors, offering the perfect setting for a day's sea angling or a pleasure trip around Ailsa Craig, the plug of an extinct volcano and now a bird sanctuary.

Girvan has a proud reputation for floral attractions and colourful displays, present in many parts of the town, among which there are Rose Gardens, Knockcushan Gardens and Orchard Gardens. The town is also great for foot exploration and biking, especially within the Carrick Forest and the many picturesque villages of the surrounding Carrick area.

Once a year, in the first weekend of May, Girvan celebrated its annual Girvan Folk music Festival, which is considered to be one of the town's most popular features and one of its major attractions. The Festival of Light, kept in November, is also of interest, this exciting event transforming the town into a rain of colorful lights, with an illuminated Lantern procession, and Finale Shore Performance with Girvan Attractions Annual fireworks display, offering visitors a unique experience and the setting for the perfect vacation photo.
